 Environmental Assessment Project

The Business Environment Assessment Project aims to help businesses improve their environmental performance by reducing the risk of pollutants entering the environment.
  
Central to the project is ensuring compliance with the Environmental Protection (Unauthorised Discharges) Regulations 2004. This legislation applies to all businesses operating in Western Australia and to their employees. In summary, the Regulations prohibit the discharge of certain materials into the environment in connection with a business.
 

Onsite Assessments

 
The City’s Environmental Officer - Light Industry conducts assessments of environmental practices at relevant business premises. Assessment feedback includes recommendations on how to reduce the risk of discharges to the environment and on compliance with relevant legislation. It should be noted that the Environmental Officer - Light Industry is a compliance officer in terms of the Environmental Protection Act 1986.
 
The City first started conducting similar assessments at local businesses in 2007 with the launch of the (then) Swan Catchment Council's Light Industry Risk Assessment (LIRA) project.
