Cultural Tour with Dr Noel Nannup OAM

Various Locations​ The purpose of the tour is to provide a unique opportunity to increase the community’s awareness of Aboriginal culture, heritage and connection to land. Areas of significance include: Tomato Lake, Adachi Park, Bilya Kard Boodja Lookout and Signal Hill. The Tour will be facilitated by respected Noongar Elder, Dr Noel Nannup OAM, who is a well-known esteemed story teller, cultural guide, instructor and mentor. Noel has a passion for sharing and promoting Aboriginal heritage and keeping Aboriginal culture alive in the Perth metropolitan area. A light lunch will be provided. Places are limited and RSVP is essential and required by Monday 1 November 2019.

Ruth Faulkner Library​ ​Help us celebrate Pride month this November with Holden Sheppard as he discusses his new book Invisible Boys. This debut novel centres on a group of very different teenage boys growing up gay in Geraldton. Holden will share the impetus for writing the novel, which won the 2018 City of Fremantle T.A.G. Hungerford Award, and will also talk about his own journey - both the struggle to become a published author and his struggle for self-acceptance as a gay man in light of various challenges growing up.

This workshop is about using tools that are available everywhere to reboot our creative thinking and inspire our writing. Tarot is visual and dense with detail, symbolism and iconography - it's a great place to abandon what you know about storytelling and really let your imagination fly. You don't need to know anything about Tarot, in fact the less you know the better it may be. Bring writing materials and your most open mind!
