The City of Belmont is proud to provide the community with FREE and LOW cost Active, Nutritious and Creative Lifestyles classes in our summer series.

Come and experience something new and exciting that Belmont has to offer!

Come and Try - 6 weeks Touch Football

Have you ever wanted to try a new sport but unsure about which one to join, or you did not want to be committed to a six month season? Then this is the perfect session for you to build fitness, friendship and fun. This Come and Try activity is aimed at both women and men, so why not join up with your partner or a friend and meet like-minded individuals having fun and learning new skills? Over 6 weeks, participants will learn basic skills, build strength and fitness required to play touch football in a fun, motivating and social setting. Each week you will build on new skills and by week 5 and 6 will play a full game. This program is best suited to youth aged 16+ and adults.

Bring/wear: Comfortable clothing, sneakers, towel, drink bottle

Cost*: $10 for residents; $20 for non-residents

Venue: Miles Park (meet in front of Community Centre)

When: Wednesdays 22 January to 26 February 2020, 6pm - 7pm

Come and Try - Forster Park Outdoor Fitness Equipment Sessions

Do you have a new year's resolution to improve your fitness, look after your health or just workout with friends or family outdoors? You are invited to come and try the new outdoor fitness equipment at Forster Park. Under the guidance of experienced personal trainers you will be shown how to use the equipment and given tips to cater to your own abilities, build up your knowledge and skills in this 4 week introductory session. Suitable for all fitness levels and ages 16 years and older.

Each participant that attends the full 4 week session will go in the draw to win a FitBit (valued up to $299). All participants will receive a fitness band.

Cost*: $10 for residents (four sessions) and $20 for non-residents (four sessions)

Venue: Forster Park (corner of Keane & Fisher Street)

Nutritious Lifestyles



Packed with Goodness

Packing a healthy lunchbox fuels children for their best possible day at school and helps form healthy habits. The Crunch&Sip® team from Cancer Council WA will be running this free 90 minute healthy lunchbox education session for parents and grandparents of new kindergarten or school-aged children aged 5-12 years old. The topics covered in this session include:

  • The importance of fruit and vegies for kids;
  • Tips for packing a healthy lunchbox;
  • Healthy alternatives to pre-packaged snacks;
  • Label reading;
  • The best drink choices for kids.

Each parent or grandparent who attends will take home a free resource kit to support the session and provide you with practical tips and tools for making healthy choices. There will also be lunchboxes provided for each child for parents to take home. Light refreshments provided.

Mindfulness to improve your mental health

Did you know that 1 in 5 Australians aged 16-85 are affected by a mental health challenge? Most of us know how to become more physically healthy, but it is also possible to become more mentally healthy too. Meditation is for everyone and will greatly benefit those who suffer from anxiety, insomnia, stress and an overactive mind. 

Learn how to manage stress, improve your mental health and become more conscious of your thoughts by joining Anne-Marie who is a qualified holistic counsellor and mind body medicine practitioner from Mandala Holistic Therapies. In this one hour session participants will learn:

  • What mindfulness is;
  • Health benefits of mindfulness;
  • A mindfulness meditation.

Urban Street Art For Youth

Design your own rad trucker cap!

Be inspired by this dynamic youth workshop with Urban Street Artist Fieldey. Fieldey is a surf, skate, street artist and star of the popular YouTube channel Fieldey TV. She will be running an Urban Art cap painting workshop. Come along, listen to some tunes and learn how to custom paint your own cap! 

Cost: FREE

Venue: Belmont Skate Park

When: Saturday, 8 February 2020, 10:30am - 1.30pm

RSVP: This is a drop-in event, catering for up to 90 attendees (maximum 10 attendees at any one time) therefore it will be a first in best dressed.

 



Creative Contemporary Acrylics with Pam Lockwood

This 6 week contemporary acrylics course is designed to touch base on colour and design before starting your own painting. You will put your design onto a canvas, choosing the best colours to work with. You will discuss different ways of working with acrylics, by treating them like watercolour or oils or a mixture of both.

Basic materials supplied. Suitable for all levels.

Cost*:  City of Belmont residents - $90 per course

            Non-residents - $120 per course
