The City of Belmont is proud to provide the community with FREE and LOW cost Active, Nutritious and Creative Lifestyles classes in our winter series.

Come and experience something new and exciting that Belmont has to offer!

Active Lifestyles



Beginner Pilates

Join Jodie from Vital Wellness Pilates for 8 weeks of mat-based pilates. Using your body weight for resistance and a mat, you will flow through a range of controlled movements aimed at improving core strength, muscle tone, flexibility, balance, posture and a range of movements.

There are 2 classes to suit participant needs based on age.

​45 years and over ​6pm - 7pm
​Class 2
​18 - 44 years ​7pm - 8pm
 

Bring/wear: Comfortable clothing, mat, towel, drink bottle
Cost*: $40 for residents; $80 for non-residents
Venue: Rivervale Community Centre
When: Wednesdays 5 June to 24 July

Pelvic Floor - Lift it or Lose it

To celebrate World Continence Week, join exercise physiologist Emmery from Thrive Wellness for a practical and informative presentation about maintaining and improving your pelvic floor. 
 
Did you know that almost every exercise that you do affects your pelvic floor? Maintaining a good pelvic floor is everyone's business as these muscles function to maintain bladder and bowel control along with intra-abdominal pressure. Additionally they are important for sexual function and play an important role in pregnancy and childbirth.

Light refreshments provided. Each person in attendance will be entered into a door prize which will be drawn at the conclusion of the event.

Cost*: $5 for residents; $10 for non-residents

Nutritious Lifestyles




Everything you need to know about Type 2 Diabetes

Come join us for an informative presentation with accredited practising dietician Nick Nation who will cover everything you need to know about Type 2 diabetes and your diet. During this 45 minute presentation Nick will discuss the ins and outs of Type 2 diabetes covering the following topics:

* Understanding how diabetes progresses
* What do your bloods mean? What do your meds do?
* Breaking the cycle 
* Food as first medicine
* The role of the gut in diabetes

Spend the second hour of this interactive session determining what support services are available in the community to assist you with maintaining a healthy lifestyle and/or actively managing your diabetes. Meet the team from Terry White Chemmart Belmont Forum, have your blood sugar tested and find out how they can support you in managing your medications and more. Learn about the State's peak support body for people living with diabetes - Diabetes WA, the services they offer and how they can assist you and your family.

Creative Lifestyles



 
NAIDOC 2019 Dance and Song Kids' Workshop

This workshop by Aboriginal artist Jade Dolman teaches Noongar culture through dance and song. Kids will learn about traditional lifestyle, language, native animals and get to see and touch some traditional tools.

Suitable for kids 5+ years.

Cost*:  FREE
Venue: Ruth Faulkner Public Library

Drawing - Beginners to Advanced

Join WA artist Shirley Winstanley in this 6 week course where you will learn about shape, tone and composition in drawing objects. You will also have the opportunity to explore the effects of negative space, edge and form in drawing. The skills you learn can then be applied to painting a model in the studio or 'plein air' landscape.

Basic material supplied. Suitable for all levels.

Cost*:  City of Belmont residents - $90 per term
            Non-residents - $120 per term
