The City of Belmont is proud to provide the community with FREE and LOW cost Active, Nutritious and Creative Lifestyles classes in our spring series.

Come and experience something new and exciting that Belmont has to offer!

Active Lifestyles



Come and Try - 6 weeks Touch Football

Have you ever wanted to try a new sport but unsure about which one to join, or you did not want to be committed to a six month season? Then this is the perfect session for you to build fitness, friendship and fun. This Come and Try activity is aimed at both women and men, so why not join up with your partner or a friend and meet like-minded individuals having fun and learning new skills? Over 6 weeks, participants will learn basic skills, build strength and fitness required to play touch football in a fun, motivating and social setting. Each week you will build on new skills and by week 5 and 6 will play a full game. This program is best suited to adults.

Bring/wear: Comfortable clothing, sneakers, towel, drink bottle
Cost*: $10 for residents; $20 for non-residents
Venue: Miles Park (meet at Community Centre)
When: Wednesdays 9 October to 13 November 2019, 6pm - 7pm

Walktober

You are invited to join one of the City of Belmont's walking groups in October and participate in our Walktober Challenge. Enjoy the beautiful surrounds of City of Belmont's parks, meet new people and find your daily thirty all at once! Suitable for all fitness levels.

Attend as many sessions held by our walk leaders during the month and go in the draw to win one of three Fitbits (valued up to $299). The more sessions you attend the more chances to win!

Nutritious Lifestyles




From the Garden to Your Plate

Have you considered creating your own vegetable garden, or currently have one and do not know how to maintain it, or know what produce to plant for each season? Then this informative and hands-on session is for you. During this 2-hour workshop, learn to grow veges from seeds and seedlings followed by a planting and harvesting session with the Belmont Community Growers. Reap your rewards and enjoy nutritious food and take home a free tomato seedling.

Light lunch provided. There will be a door prize after the workshop. Kids 12 years and under can attend at no charge.

Cost*: $5 for residents; $10 for non-residents

Wellness Lifestyles




Connect with Diabetes (Type 1 and Type 2)

This is a free Connect with Diabetes information session presented by Diabetes WA for anyone who would like to know more information about the condition. Topics covered include:

* Find out if your family is at risk;
* Better understand diabetes and the importance of self-mangement;
* Find out what you are entitled to receive under the National Disability SS;
* Find out what local health services are available in your area;
* Make small changes to live a healthier life with your family.

Light refreshments provided.

Creative Lifestyles



 
A Mixed Media Masterpiece with Amanda Harris

Have fun by learning how to skilfully combine lots of different painting mediums like acrylic paint, gouache, papers and oil pastels together to create a beautiful still life painting in a 6 week course.

Suitable for beginners, more advanced painters or anyone in between. Participants will learn:

* How to skilfully combine lots of different mediums together to achieve a successful outcome;
* How to combine drawing and painting together;
* Learning about composition and tonal values;
* Learning about the many varied surfaces and how to create them.

Basic materials supplied. Suitable for all levels.

Cost*: City of Belmont Residents - $90 per term
          Non-Residents - $120 per term

Drawing with Confidence with Tim Pearson

This 6 week drawing course is designed both for people who thought they couldn't draw, and for people who would like to learn to draw more confidently.

You will learn basic line and tone and shading techniques using soft lead or graphite pencils and sticks of charcoal. You will learn how to draw a human figure (clothed) and a human face i.e. a portrait. You will also try your hand at a studio still life composition.

Basic materials supplied. Suitable for all levels.


Cost*:  City of Belmont residents - $90 per term
            Non-residents - $120 per term
