 Activities for Children

​​Special Ticketed Events For Children

The Library runs special ticketed sessions for children on a regular basis, along with school holiday programs and one-off workshops. Children's programs are designed to spark curiosity, engage children socially, and to foster a life-long love of learning. 

Please note:
To enable a safe and enjoyable experience at our library events, children under 12 years of age must be supervised at all times by a parent, guardian or carer.

Belmont Jets Reading Club 


Children kindergarten age and below are encouraged to join our Reader Reward Program by requesting a Belmont Jets card at the circulation desk. Borrow three books with your Library card and show your Belmont Jets card to earn a stamp. Ten stamps earns a new card and your own book to take home and keep. All completed cards go in a draw for the chance to win a  hamper pack during our biannual Belmont Jets Draws. 

Belmont Jets Draws will be held during special story time events on 10:30am to 11am Thursday, 27 June 2019 and Thursday, 5 December 2019.  
 
 

Hop To It - Rewards for Beginner Readers


Beginner Readers can be rewarded for their efforts at the Library! This online reward program encourages children from five to ten years of age to hop into reading. For every ten books read children can collect online badges and real-life incentive prizes. Sign up to Beanstack and get started on your reading adventure! Alternatively, pick up a paper reward chart from one of our friendly staff at the library. 

Hop To It Saturday Club is held on the first Saturday of each month. Children participate in activities such as robotics, science experiments, crafts, author talks and more!

Baby Bookworms Workshops


Mondays, 10am to 10:45am 

Nurture your unique bond with your baby through songs, rhymes and the sharing of books. Baby Bookworms is a series of workshops that will help you connect with other parents and learn about your child's development in the first year. For parents with babies 12 months and under.

Baby Rhyme Time


Mondays, 11am to 11:30am and Thursdays, 9:15am to 9:45am during school terms. 

Enjoy rhymes, songs and simple stories with your baby as well as morning tea with friends. For babies and toddlers up to 18 months of age.

2019 Sessions: 4 February to 8 April / 29 April to 1 July / 22 July to 23 September / 14 October to 2 December.

*A combined Baby Rhyme Time, Tiny Tots Story Time and Belmont Jets Draw will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, 27 June and Thursday, 5 December 2019.

Parking will be available on the signed grassed area adjacent to the Library, which is accessible via Progress Way.

Curious Kids


Third Thursday of each month, 3:30pm to 4:30pm.

Explore science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics through engaging hands on activities, stories and songs. A fruit platter is provided before the session begins. 

For children from 4 to 7 years of age.

Tiny Tots Story Time


Every Thursday and Friday, 10:30am to 11am.  

Listen to stories, songs and rhymes in this dynamic, interactive and educational story time session followed by a simple craft activity. Tiny Tots Story Time is for children aged 18 months to 4+ years.  

2019 Sessions: 7 February to 5 December. No bookings required.  

Please note that the Friday session is a repeat of Thursday's session.

Parking for Thursday sessions will be available on the signed grassed area adjacent to the Library, which is accessible via Progress Way.

Tech Time


Throughout the term.

A series of workshops exploring coding with LEGO, stop-motion animation and more. The workshops are designed to foster logical thought, teamwork and creativity and an understanding of the workings of everyday technology. 

For children and youth aged 9 to 15.

Learning English Through Story Time (LETS)

 
Tuesdays, 10:30am to 11:30am or Wednesdays, 10:30am to 11:30am

A series of ten week learning English workshops for newly settled parents/grandparents and their pre-schoolers. Families are encouraged to learn English through songs, rhymes and interactive activities. Suitable for children 2 to 4 years of age and their carers. 

2019 Sessions:
Tuesdays: 5 February to 9 April / 30 April to 2 July / 23 July to 24 September / 15 October to 10 December.
Wednesdays: 6 February to 10 April / 1 May to 3 July / 24 July to 25 September / 16 October to 11 December.

LEGO Club


First Wednesday of each month, 4:00pm to 5:00pm.

LEGO Club is a social, play based group for children. Join us for an exciting session of building and creating using LEGO.

Triple 8 Kid's Club


Second Wednesday of each month, 4:00pm to 5:00pm.

Cre8, Celebr8 and Investig8 with prizes, games, craft and pop up books. make new friends, see new and unusual books and receive prizes for reading throughout the month.
