 Volunteers

Why does the City of Belmont need volunteers?

Volunteering is one of the most vital ways for us to create the kind of community we want to live in and an essential component of a democratic society.

In working together we share common values that create a sense of community spirit that supports and protects us all.

The City of Belmont’s aim is to provide opportunities for current and future members of our community.  We believe that volunteers contribute to the spirit of the community and they are key partners in making the City's aim a reality. We also acknowledge that volunteers who freely give their time, skills and knowledge promote a healthy community spirit and become role models who demonstrate the positive principles of citizenship to our children and future generations.

The City of Belmont is committed to encouraging you as a citizen and a volunteer to be a partner in service development - working together in finding solutions to ensure that Belmont is a supportive community and a pleasant, safer place to live, work and visit.  Studies have shown that citizens who give their time in a volunteer role to help others are rewarded by their own personal development and the satisfaction that contributing their time for the community enables them to live healthier lives as a result.

Volunteering provides many benefits to both those who volunteer and those they assist.

What can volunteers do for the community?

The City of Belmont has a high proportion of citizens who require support to enable them to continue to live in their own homes for as long as possible.

Home and Community Care (HACC) aims to provide the necessary funding support to the City in order to make these wishes a reality. Volunteers help to make this a reality through working within the City of Belmont’s programmes and community initiatives.

Volunteers also work in a range of other community services such as bus driving and recreation and leisure services. New opportunities to volunteer are developed according to needs identified in the community.

The City of Belmont has volunteers working in the following areas:
Volunteers are also needed in our Community Development and Community Wellbeing departments. Please contact us for further information about these positions.
