Over $9000 in Prizes
The City of Belmont has launched its 2008 Art & Photographic Awards, to be held at Belmont Forum Shopping Centre from 28 July to 9 August, with exciting changes which will result in a diverse and interesting exhibition.
As well as a major Acquisitive Prize in the Art Awards section, artists are for the first time invited to interpret the City through a new ‘Aspects of Belmont’ section.
Major sponsors Belmont Forum, who provide space and exhibition support, are now joined by new major sponsor Perth Airport who are funding a new Prize for Aboriginal Art valued at $3000. Perth Airport have also subsidised the entry fee for this section as an added incentive to encourage Aboriginal artists to enter the Awards. A special consultant for Aboriginal art has been secured who will assist entrants with enquiries, and provide a drop off point for entrants outside the City of Belmont, providing another incentive for Aboriginal artists across the wider metropolitan area to enter.
The Art Awards section is also supported by Perth Racing, with Highly Commended Prizes provided by local picture framers Frame-ography.
In the Photographic Awards, entrants are also encouraged to depict the City with both an Open section, open to all subject matter, and a ‘City of Belmont Focus’ section.
Sponsors Camera Electronic have provided a substantial Highly Commended Prize to be awarded across both sections of the Photographic Awards.
Images from this section will be selected for a special Sister City photographic exchange with Adachi, Japan. Those selected will receive vouchers from Belmont Photographics.
Entrants in both the Art & Photographic Awards are offered a delivery and collection near Fremantle to allow wider participation around the state, an initiative which proved popular with entrants in 2007.
The Awards attract highly respected judges, and coincides with a Youth Arts project also on display for the duration of the exhibition.
The popular People’s Choice Award allows the public to determine their favourite artwork, and in the process vie for a $500 shopping voucher from Belmont Forum Shopping Centre.
