The City of Belmont has donated food to community members in need, following the cancellation of this year’s Avon Descent Family Fun Day on Sunday 5 August.
More than 100 kilograms of fruit, bread, donuts and sausages were donated to food rescue organisation SecondBite, as well as the City’s Belmont Youth Centre The Base@Belmont and Harman Park Community Centre. Donuts were also provided to Ruth Faulkner Public Library patrons.
“Regrettably, due to heavy rains in the week before the event, Garvey Park became saturated and therefore unable to sustain a community event,” City of Belmont Chief Executive Officer John Christie said.
“To ensure the food purchased for the event did not go to waste, the City gladly donated the food to other organisations for their use to help others in our community,” Mr Christie said.
