 Building Plans Archive Search

The City receives many requests for copies of building plans, generally when the owner seeks to carry out extensions or alterations to their property. Other reasons for obtaining a copy of the plans are to provide a copy to a prospective purchaser or real estate agent or for a supplier to take off quantities. Many of the building plans are archived off-site in secure storage and for some older buildings there may not be any plans available at all.

When seeking a copy of their building plans, the property owner or applicant with written permission from the owner is required to complete a Building Plan Retrieval Archive Search Request Form and must attend the City Civic Centre to submit the form with proof of identification. The archive search is subject to a fee. The form and associated fees are available for viewing by clicking on the below link.

PLEASE NOTE:  The provision of a copy of building plans is subject to the payment of a fee as set by Council for the recovery and copying of relevant documents. The quality of plans is not guaranteed and the Archive Search Fee is not refundable if the plans are not suitable or cannot be located.

Prospective purchasers or real estate agents can obtain copies of building plans subject to written authorisation from owner to obtain plans. A copy of this authorisation must be submitted when completing the Building Plan Retrieval Archive Search Request Form.
