The City's Planning Department is responsible for statutory and strategic land planning within the City of Belmont.
Statutory planning ensures that development (for example: houses, offices, warehouses, subdivision and change of land use) within the City of Belmont complies with the Local Planning Scheme, Local Planning Policies, the Residential Design Codes and other relevant legislation and policies.
Strategic Planning, also known as Forward Planning, focuses on:
- setting a framework for future development by addressing the form and direction of growth
- implementing State government policies
- identifying and implementing local structure plans (for example: The Springs and Development Area 6)
- preparing local planning policies.
