 Water Quality

Stormwater drainage is important in an urban environment and reduces the risk of flooding. Our stormwater network collects water off hard surfaces, roads and footpaths and conveys this to basins or wetlands where water can infiltrate into the ground or flows to the Swan and Canning Rivers.

However, stormwater has the potential to negatively affect natural waterways and aquatic systems, resulting in the loss of biodiversity and the pollution and deterioration of our environment.

The City and its residents can help to minimise our impacts on wetlands and waterways by ensuring our stormwater only contains rainwater and we do not allow pollutants to enter these systems.
