The City of Belmont has one Local Planning Scheme which covers the entire District. It is called the City of Belmont Local Planning Scheme No 15 and was gazetted on 1 December 2011. The Scheme has the same status as an Act of Parliament and is comprised of a written statement (Scheme Text), plans (Scheme Map) and report (Local Planning Strategy).
The Local Planning Scheme controls land use and details specific requirements for development in the City for matters such as car parking, landscaping, setbacks from property boundaries and building height and bulk.
A number of Local Planning Policies have also been adopted under Local Planning Scheme No 15.
