Museum spaces
Inside the Belmont Museum, you will find a range of spaces for delving into local historical records, completing your research or reading quietly.
Local history room
The local history room is the place to access local historical records and research your family tree. It is home to the original 1937 Belmont Roads Board table and has some hidden surprises to explore.
Whadjuk Noongar Stories of the Sky and Seasons: Ceiling Projection
Listen and observe the Wargyl as he slithers through the constellations above Belmont, forming the six seasons and changing the lives of the people living below.
You can visit at different times of the year to watch the story evolve and change with time. This artistic interpretation of traditional Whadjuk Noongar life in the Belmont area is an inspiring space of contemplation and learning.
Rivervale Congregational Church display
Pull up a pew at the Rivervale Congregational Church display and consider the stories of the generations of people who sat silently in the same place.
Two restored stained-glass windows and surrounding artefacts provide the perfect backdrop to contemplate the past, present and future, and a peaceful rest point from exploring the rest of the museum.
Riverbank wall
Visit the Riverbank wall to see creatures of all shapes and sizes hop, swim, fly or scuttle across a virtual Swan River. Choose your favourite creature, colour it in and place it under the scanner to see it come to life before your eyes!
Hands-on history
Enjoy a full sensory experience to smell, touch and hold history in your hands.
You can step into an old-fashioned red phone booth and take a trip back in time to hear the voices of Belmont locals from the past. Climb the riverbank and peer into the displays of the strange and wonderful things you might find along the Swan River. Touch and feel the artefacts in our old-fashioned kitchen, peer into the shop or school, or try your hand at wringing out clothes in the laundry space.

Faces of Belmont Exhibition
They say the eyes are the window to the soul. Gaze into the eyes of City of Belmont locals and see if you can guess the kind of life they've lived. From born and bred locals to refugees and migrants, the City has a wide cast of unique characters, each with their own diverse and compelling stories to tell.
Each photograph on display has at least one symbol which hints at places to find more information. Perhaps they lead to an object on display that illustrates a person's life experience, or an oral history or book in the Local History Room that tells their story in more depth.
Explore and discover these stories behind the Faces of Belmont next time you visit Belmont Museum.
