You may need approval from the City of Belmont to run certain activities from your home. Whether you need approval will depend on a number of factors, including the type of activity, the amount of space it takes and the number of people involved.

Home-based activities which will need development approval include a:
 

• Home Business;
• Home Store;
• Child Family Day Care;

You will not need development approval from the City for a:
 

• Home Occupation;
• Home Office;

How to apply for development approval

To apply for development approval for your home-based activity, you will need to:
 

• Complete and submit the Application for Development Approval Form;
• Provide the necessary information listed in the Development Application Checklist – Home Business, Home Store or Child Family Day Care;
• Pay an application fee of $147 (as per the Schedule Planning Fees) if you are applying for a Child Family Day Care.

No fees apply to applications for a ‘Home Business’ or a ‘Home Store’.
