The City of Belmont officially launched its support for the ‘This Bay is Someone’s Day’ campaign on Friday 4 December 2020 during its All Abilities FunFest for International Day of People with Disability 2020.
‘This Bay is Someone’s Day’ is a campaign from National Disability Services which aims to reduce the misuse of ACROD parking bays across Western Australia.
City of Belmont Mayor Cr Phil Marks said the City was committed to creating a community that was welcoming and accessible to all.
“The City of Belmont is proud to support the ‘This Bay is Someone’s Day’ campaign as part of our ongoing work in creating an accessible and inclusive community for people living with disability,” Mayor Marks said.
“Our Access and Inclusion Plan 2018-2021 outlines how the City will engage in collaborative partnerships that enable greater accessibility for a changing community, including working with service providers, stakeholders and the City’s Access and Inclusion Advisory Group.
“By supporting this campaign, the City aims to highlight the impact that parking without a permit in an ACROD bay can have on someone living with disability and help to create positive change.”
The City of Belmont has installed 22 of ‘This Bay is Someone’s Day’ decal stickers alongside ACROD bays outside the Civic Centre, Belmont Hub, Belmont Oasis Leisure Centre, Harman Park, community centres, Cracknell Park, Wilson Park netball courts, and Cloverdale Primary School.
Rangers will leave educational flyers on cars that are parked without an ACROD permit and the City will be promoting the campaign.
The All Abilities FunFest was a three day celebration of people living with disability and seniors and included trishaw rides, children’s activities, a seated dance class and art workshop among other activities.
