Residents urged to take part in study mapping community resilience

Early study results show residents agree local governments, including the City of Belmont, have shown strong leadership and support of their community during COVID-19.

Launched recently and initiated by CATALYSE and Local Government Professionals WA, the MARKYT Community Resilience Scorecard is mapping community resilience, local government performance and community needs.

Unique in its scale, reach and impact, the study is a collaboration between the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, the State’s 139 Local Governments and local communities to access timely and relevant information.

Early indicators from 2,300 residents are that COVID-19 has had a high impact on 1 in 5 residents and 1 in 3 residents continue to have high concerns about COVID-19.

Most residents agree their local government has put good health and safety practices in place to manage COVID-19 risks in local parks, libraries and community facilities.

Communities are showing their resilience. Around 8 in 10 residents rate their general health as good or better and 8 in 10 residents rate their social relationships as good or better. Most are feeling hopeful and enthusiastic about the future.

City of Belmont Chief Executive Officer John Christie encouraged residents to have their say.

“To assist us in determining priorities on how we help the community we want more people to participate in the survey – I encourage you to complete the MARKYT Community Resilience Scorecard,” Mr Christie said.

The MARKYT Community Resilience Scorecard will remain open until 3 July 2020. It is open to all residents aged 18 years or older and can be completed online at www.research.net/r/MARKYT
