City of Belmont Celebrates its Volunteers

The City of Belmont held a special luncheon this week in honour of its volunteers as part of National Volunteer Week.

City of Belmont Mayor Cr Phil Marks said the positive impact that volunteering has in our local community is invaluable.

“The City thanks our volunteers for their hard work, enthusiasm and commitment to our community,” Mayor Marks said.

Guests attending the special luncheon were treated to an inspiring talk by Matthew Petch from Kalamunda Fire and Rescue Service who spoke passionately about his involvement in volunteering.

City of Belmont volunteers are involved in a wide variety of the City’s projects and programs from Tax Help and Justice of the Peace, community events, to helping out at Ruth Faulkner Library and Belmont Museum in the new community building Belmont Hub.

“We believe that our volunteers contribute to the spirit of our community and are key partners in assisting the City's visions and goals become reality,” Mayor Marks said.

The City recognises its volunteers after every five years of volunteering. This year Wenny Gowinda, Suzanne Dowsett, Mike Slingsby and Lynette Kraft were recognised for five years of volunteering, and Joan Hill was recognised for 10 years.

“Through volunteering you make a real difference by helping to connect people in our community with organisations and services,” Mayor Marks said.

“The City is committed to building a strong community and you, our volunteers, play a big part in making that happen.”
