The Belmont Trust Land - Future Vision Project Community Panel met for the first time on Saturday 30 April.
The Community Panel has been convened to consider the outcomes of the broad community engagement activities and the future use of the Belmont Trust Land.
Forty community members of the City of Belmont have been selected to participate in the panel workshops in April and May.
The Panel, with the assistance of an independent facilitator will explore and evaluate options for the site and provide recommendations to the Belmont Trust Land trustees on the future use of the site.
In February and March, almost 350 people participated in the first stage of engagement. Broad engagement activities were held across the City and included the launch event, workshops, pop up information stalls, interviews, and a community survey.
The Community Panel is the second stage of this important project to consider the future recreational use of the Belmont Trust Land.
“There has been high interest in this important project in the City of Belmont. We thank the community that have already contributed to the project to develop options for the future recreational use of the site,” City of Belmont Chief Executive Officer John Christie said, on behalf of the Trustees.
“The Community Panel is an important second stage of the project and the Trust is looking forward to hearing recommendations from the panellist on the potential future use of the land.”
During the Community Panel workshops, panellists will hear from experts and discuss options for the site that will deliver the best outcomes for the community.
Panellists will consider public recreational uses on the site and importantly how those are paid for and maintained.
They will also consider the outcomes of the broad community engagement activities which identified community preferences for the future community use of the site.
The final report for the project will then be presented to the Belmont Trustees – the elected members of the City of Belmont.
