City of Belmont’s Latest Community Safety Video Highlights The Base@Belmont Youth Services

The City of Belmont’s seventh video released, as part of its community safety video series, highlights the services for young people provided by the City through its youth centre, The Base@Belmont.

This welcoming and safe space is open 6 days a week to young people aged 11 to 25. The Base@Belmont provides diversional and recreational activities as well as access to qualified youth workers.

“The Base@Belmont caters to the diverse needs of young people, offering referral services for specialised support, job search and careers assistance, as well as more casual support through drop-in sessions,” City of Belmont Chief Executive Officer John Christie said.

The Base@Belmont is delivered in partnership between the City of Belmont and the Y WA and is a smoke, alcohol and drug-free environment for young people of all abilities and cultural backgrounds.

“The Base is part of the City’s commitment to, and investment in, young members of the community,” Mr Christie said.

The video series is an initiative of the City’s Community Safety Taskforce and aims to empower residents with community safety information and advice.

Other topics covered in the community safety video series include home security, CCTV in the City, and family domestic violence support services.

The Community Safety Taskforce is a strategic multi-agency partnership created by the City of Belmont where members at a local level share a collective commitment to improving community safety.

Mr Christie said the videos were an example of the important work being initiated by the Community Safety Taskforce that aimed to assist the community.

“The Taskforce aims to challenge negative preconceptions about crime in the City of Belmont through the sharing of statistics, facts, information and positive initiatives undertaken by the Taskforce,” Mr Christie said.

Complementary to the City’s Community Safety Taskforce, is the Community Safety Alliance which is made up of community members who play an important role in sharing information about the City’s community safety programs and other initiatives.
