The Belmont Trust Land - Future Vision project is a broad community engagement project which aims to understand the community aspirations for the future use of the Belmont Trust site.
The project will be officially launched with a smoking ceremony on Saturday 5 February from 4pm to 5:30pm. Community members are invited to attend the official launch to learn about the history of the project and how to become involved in the engagement project.
This project aims to understand what recreational uses the community would like to see on the site and how any recreation facilities are paid for and maintained. Information gathered throughout this project will assist the Belmont Trust to establish a strategic vision for the parcel of land.
The land is located between the Swan River, Stoneham Street and Great Eastern Highway near Ascot Racecourse.
While the City of Belmont owns the 14 hectare site, a Declaration of Trust over the land has appointed Trustees – who are the current and successive Councillors of the City – to manage the land which must be used for recreational purposes for the benefit of the community.
The Trustees are encouraging community members of the City of Belmont to participate in the Belmont Trust Land – Future Vision project to share their aspirations on the future use of this important site.
“Come along to the launch of the project to hear about how to become involved in shaping the future use of this land,” Belmont Trust spokesperson John Christie said.
“Following the launch there will be a variety of ways community can participate in the project. There will be workshops, an online survey and community pop-ups stalls happening across the City of Belmont throughout February and March 2022,” Mr Christie said.
“The Trustees recognise the importance of community input into the future use of the site,” he said.
“We want the whole community to become involved, to learn about the history of the site and share their views on the best future use of the land to deliver ongoing community benefit.”
