Ruth Faulkner Library and Belmont Museum offer a range of excursions and activities during the school term. Excursions are designed to be fun, interactive and immersive experiences to spark curiosity and help school students connect with local history and literacy.

Read Out Loud Awards

Each year the Ruth Faulkner Library hosts the Read Out Loud Awards (ROLA) in partnership with local primary schools in a fun, carnival atmosphere.

ROLA aims to help children gain confidence in speaking to a large audience and encourages children to see reading aloud as an enjoyable and rewarding activity. The awards also help to promote the library as a valuable source for selecting read aloud favourites and to encourage parents to read aloud to children daily.

Guided excursions

You can book a guided half-day or full-day excursion at the library and museum on Fridays during the school term. Library and Museum content can be combined with a self-guided tour of the Belmont Hub and Faulkner Park for a full day experience for up to three classes. Alternatively, 90 minute guided excursions can be booked to suit the time available and your class size. 
 

Kindergarten, Years One, Two and Three

Storytime Experience

What happens at your local library? In this learning experience, students will experience an engaging storytime session and an age appropriate introduction to library services.

Build a Belmonster Adventure

Where do the amazing stories in a library come from? Discover how authors and illustrators work together to bring a book (or ebook) to life. In this learning experience, students will collaboratively create an original Belmonster Adventure in hard copy, audio or ebook format. 

Celebrate History with the Courtlands

What was life like in the olden days? Meet the Courtland family and discover how they lived, worked and celebrated special occasions in the Belmont community. Use museum artefacts to help you imagine life in the past.

Years Four, Five and Six  

Fake the Facts

Try to pull the wool over the eyes of your friends and teachers by inventing fake facts. Test your internal lie detector and learn how to use librarian tricks to separate the truth from a tall story. Will your team win the game and become the champions of truth?

Better Beginnings Kindergarten Sessions

We have partnered with the State Library of Western Australia’s Better Beginnings program to help every child in the City of Belmont have access to books at home.
 
Each kindergarten child receives a free pack containing a book to keep and early literacy resources for parents. The delivery of these packs can be combined with a Storytime session from one of our engaging early childhood presenters.

Storytime Outreach

Bring stories to life with a visit from one of our engaging and experinced early literacy presenters! Day cares, early childhood education centres, and playgroups within the City of Belmont can enjoy a Storytime session designed for children and families of all English and literacy levels. Each organisation can book one visit per year.

Belmont Museum activity sheets

Our downloadable activitiy sheets focus on significant people, places and objects in the City's history. They are designed to provide children 5 to 9 years of age with some historical context to contemporary places they are already familar with.
