The Judges were very impressed with the overall standard of the 2022 Belmont Art Awards and were very pleased that it was an openly accessible art award that encouraged artists of all calibres, ages and accomplishment to participate.
About the Exhibition
Perth artist Everlyn Sturges has won the 2022 City of Belmont Art Awards $10,000 Overall Award (non-acquisitive) sponsored by the City of Belmont.
Sturges’ artwork – The Shed – captured the attention of the Award judges Wendy Martin and Sue Starcken, who described it as a “Technically adept painting that meticulously documents a familiar space that many can relate to. The iconic shed holds an enduring resonance in our culture. Long associated with hobbies and industry alike, the shed holds a vast compendium of tools and materials for inventing, making, and fixing”.
The City received a record 459 entries in this year’s awards in both 2D and 3D works, including drawings, paintings, photography, textiles, sculptures, and ceramics of which included 61 entries from City of Belmont based artists.
The City also received good support for the program of public events held in conjunction with the awards, and a very successful art collectors’ night which saw more than 200 people attend on the night.
