Marcy D'Souza
Belmont based artist Marcy D’Souza presents a new suite of mixed-media works, depicting whimsical scenes of male figures in suburban settings. Based on D’Souza’s fleeting observations of men in her neighbourhood experiencing various solitary moments, the works explore the artist's imagined possibility of a nonthreatening male stranger. In the safety of her moving car, D'Souza has taken note of these strangers who have unintentionally brought a smile to her face. D’Souza tackles working with melding and conflicting drawing mediums, reflecting her own inner processing on the topic of mistrust and the opposite sex.
Marcia D’Souza is a local musician and visual artist. After graduating with a Bachelor of Art (Visual Art) from Curtin University in 2011, D’Souza focused her time on her 2D visual art work, and working in arts management, teaching and therapy. Her work explores themes of uncomfortable universal feelings in women’s health, and celebrates the intricacies of the everyday.
