We are planning for the future of the Abernethy Road area through the Abernethy Road Traffic Study to improve safety and better connect our community.
The study looks at traffic movement through the area and considers safety and amenity improvements. It was prompted due to growing safety concerns, crash data and traffic monitoring.
We invited the community to submit feedback on the Abernethy Road Traffic Study between December and early February. Community members could provide feedback by completing an online or hard copy Community Feedback Survey or submitting feedback in writing via email or post to our Design, Assets and Development team.
The results of the consultation were considered by the project team and the consultant who undertook the study and an amended scenario was created based on feedback received.
Initial works will commence in the coming months, beginning with the permanent closure of Gabriel Street central median in early May. Residents who live in close proximity will be notified of the expected works schedule.
Future works relating to the study will be considered by Council as part of the capital works and budget process.
