City of Belmont continues free pet registration

City of Belmont residents are again spared the cost of registering their pet as the City continues its free pet registration program.

City of Belmont Mayor Robert Rossi spoke about the City’s ongoing commitment to supporting pet owners, noting the decision to continue offering free pet registration.

“We made pet registration free for our residents as part of our relief efforts during the pandemic which led to an influx in registrations.

“Given its success and the current cost-of-living pressures, we’ve decided to keep pet registration free” said Mayor Rossi.

The free registration program will run until the end of the financial year, where it will be reviewed as part of the 2025-26 Annual Budget.

The City encourages pet owners to take responsibility for their pets’ behaviour by sterilising, microchipping, registering and containing their pets.

These simple actions help keep pets safe and ensure the local community remains a welcoming and enjoyable place for everyone.

In addition to registration, containing pets within their owner’s property is important for both the safety of the pet and community. Microchipping and keeping details up to date are equally important to help the City quickly reunite owners with lost pets.

Sterilising pets is another key aspect of responsible ownership. It helps manage the animal population and reduces health risks for pets. In Western Australia all cats over six months old must be sterilised.

Mayor Rossi spoke about the importance of being a responsible pet owner.

“Being a responsible pet owner is about doing what’s best for your pet and community,” said Mayor Rossi.
