City of Belmont Youth Green Award Rewards Initiative

The City of Belmont has recognised an outstanding young person for their contribution to environmentally friendly initiatives.

City of Belmont Mayor Cr Phil Marks presented the 2020 award at the Base@Belmont to Luka Tomic.

The Youth Green Award, in partnership with Y WA, recognises the outstanding contribution and achievement of young people aged 12-25 years in the City of Belmont.

“This award celebrates individuals who have shown strong commitment and leadership in developing or supporting existing environmentally friendly initiatives in their community over the past year,” Mayor Marks said.

“Congratulations to Luka for being such fantastic role model in our community, and for showing leadership on environmental issues,” he said.

Luka is a member of the Inclusive Education recycling team at Belmont City College. He collects waste paper from offices across the school and shreds it for composting and use in the school’s worm farm. His commitment and enthusiasm for the process contributes greatly to the vibrant gardens students maintain across the Belmont City College campus.
