Congratulations to our 2024 Community Service and NAIDOC Award winners

At this year’s Civic Dinner, we came together to celebrate the extraordinary contributions of individuals and groups who make our city a brighter place.

Since 1977, the Community Service Awards have recognised those whose volunteer efforts leave a lasting impact, fostering a stronger, more connected community.

This year, we proudly presented seven Community Service Awards, alongside the NAIDOC Community Award, highlighting the dedication and achievements of our local heroes.

Stuart Romero

Community Service category

Stuart Romero has dedicated over 23 years of service to the Belmont State Emergency Services, participating in more than 500 call-outs annually and leading a team of 45 volunteers. His hands-on leadership and innovation, including the development of a computer program now used by 100+ SES groups statewide, have had a profound impact on both the local and broader community.

Wendy Parsons

People Who Make a Difference category

Wendy Parsons has been a cornerstone of the Belmont Sister City Association since its inception in 1984. As Chairperson, she leads the Sister City program with dedication. Over nearly 40 years, Wendy has also welcomed countless students from Adachi into her home as an enthusiastic host, making a lasting impact on cultural exchange and community connections.

John Arthur

Community Service category and People Who Make a Difference category

John Arthur has been a dedicated City volunteer for over four years. From leading a writing group to advocating for the Employment Support Program and serving as a Justice of the Peace, John exemplifies commitment to the community. His passion for supporting multicultural inclusion, leadership on the Cultural Diversity and Advisory Group, and innovative advocacy have made a lasting impact.

Brad Webster

Community Service category

Brad Webster has volunteered with the Redcliffe Football Club for over 20 years, serving as a player, coach, and leader, including as President. Passionate about youth development, Brad was the driving force behind the Redmont Umbrella team, which merged local clubs to ensure high school students could continue playing football and growing both on and off the field.

Lyn Chandler

Sports and Recreation category

Lyn Chandler has dedicated over 40 years to the Belmont Saints Squash Club. Her efforts have made squash more accessible, particularly for women, through initiatives like creating a lady’s league. As Club Treasurer, Lyn grew membership from 80 to over 220 and was instrumental in securing the club building as the new home for squash in WA, leaving a lasting legacy for the sport.

Marianne Patullo

People Who Make a Difference category and Sports and Recreation category

Marianne Patullo has led the Healthy Heart Walkers for over 21 years. Through her dedication, she has fostered a welcoming and inclusive group that promotes physical activity, improving members' physical health, mental wellbeing, and social connections within the community.

The Rotary Club of Belmont

People Who Make a Difference category

The Rotary Club has been a pillar of the Belmont community since 1960. Their contributions include presenting graduation awards to local schools, hosting the Sunday Rotary Markets, and supporting local businesses. Committed to fostering leadership, the group sponsors youth leadership camps and an exchange program, creating lasting opportunities for growth and connection.

Delma Balchin

NAIDOC Community Award

Delma Balchin has dedicated over 20 years to bridging the gap between Aboriginal communities and the WA Health system. Focused on the East Metropolitan Region, she provides culturally safe primary health services, regular health checks, and health promotion initiatives, supporting women and families in the City of Belmont through every stage of life.
