The Glasshouse has come to life with creativity following the much-anticipated opening of the 2023 City of Belmont Art Awards.
The annual Art Awards encourage the community to engage in the arts and develop new artworks that ignite the imagination, tell our unique stories, and foster connections.
Over 430 entries were received for this year’s Art Awards, with 299 pieces of original and unique artwork selected, including a diverse array of drawings, paintings, photography, textiles, sculptures and ceramics.
City of Belmont Mayor Phil Marks has applauded this year’s exhibition.
“The 2023 Art Awards is a treasure trove of diverse expressions; featuring traditional and contemporary masterpieces crafted by seasoned artists and emerging talents.
“They highlight the talent in our local community and celebrate the City of Belmont as a place of creativity and culture.” Mayor Marks said.
Opening Night saw six participating Artists celebrated as 2023 winners. Perth artist Tom Goates won the 2023 City of Belmont Art Awards Overall Award (Acquisitive) for his piece ‘Destabilise’.
The artwork captured the attention of the judges, who commented that the work speaks to the contemporary era and the immersive quality of digital worlds and gaming as a source of escape and entrapment.

- Youth Award, Emma Xu ‘My NgaBu (My Grandma)’
- Emerging Artist Award, Charlotte Robinson ‘Arianna’
- Highly Commended, Victoria Edwards ‘Kicking On’
- Highly Commended, Ian Macrae ‘The Orchestra of the Opera by Degas - with Dogs’
- City of Belmont Mentorship Prize, Sonali Fernando
- Popular Choice Awards, Mecah White 'Peak Hour Storm'
The Art Awards Exhibition is open at The Glasshouse until Saturday 16 September 2023, Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm. Entry is free and all artworks are available for sale.
