Five fresh playgrounds for local families

The City of Belmont is ringing in the new year by celebrating the completion of its annual Playground Renewal Program, which has transformed play spaces at five local parks.

This program highlights the City’s commitment to creating vibrant, inclusive spaces where residents can connect, learn, and grow together.

Families can now enjoy new playground equipment at Lions Park, Selby Park, Redgum Park, Nance Park, and Harman Park. Additionally, the basketball half-court at Peachey Park has been refurbished, offering even more opportunities for recreation across the City.

City of Belmont Mayor Robert Rossi highlighted the importance of the annual program.

“Our renewed playgrounds are more than just spaces for play—they are hubs where people come together. These playgrounds foster connections, encourage growth, and create a welcoming environment for all.

“By involving our residents in the design process and planting more trees to provide natural shade, we’re creating spaces that are sustainable, welcoming, and built specifically for our community’s needs,” said Mayor Rossi.

The City worked closely with the community throughout the design process, gathering feedback from local families and residents to ensure the upgrades met the unique needs of each neighborhood.

As part of its broader commitment to sustainability, the City has also prioritised natural shade as a key component of the upgrades.

In 2024 the City planted over 240 new trees at 30 playgrounds across the City through support from the State Government and WALGA’s Urban Greening Grant Program. These carefully selected trees will grow to provide long-lasting canopy coverage, creating comfortable, shaded areas for families to enjoy now and for generations to come.

The City’s Playground Renewal Program is part of its annual maintenance for City parks and reserves and ensures public playground equipment and parkland furniture is safe, innovative, and designed for the local park and surrounding residents.

Planning is already underway for this year’s program, as the City continues to deliver spaces for its community to thrive.
