Hot Temperatures Predicted For Festive Season

If you are in immediate danger, call 000.

High temperatures are predicted for several days over the festive season, including Christmas and Boxing Day. With warmer weather comes an increased risk of bush fires, total fire bans and heat-related illnesses.

To keep safe during this time, residents are reminded to take the following precautions:
  • Monitor the Department of Fire and Emergency Services Emergency WA website which is regularly updated with latest fire information including total fire bans and bushfire activity.
  • Understand the rules of a Total Fire Ban and Firebreak
  • Take preventative steps as recommended by the Department of Health to reduce the chances of heat-related illnesses by:
    • Not leaving anyone in a closed car (people and pets);
    • Drinking plenty of water and fluids;
    • Limiting or avoiding alcohol;
    • Staying indoors, in air-conditioning if possible taking a cool shower or bath;
    • Wearing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing;
    • Applying sunscreen at regular intervals while outdoors;
    • Reducing physical activity;
    • Avoiding outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day;
    • If possible, staying in shaded areas when outdoors;
    • Not relying on fans unless there is adequate ventilation.
To report an individual breaching the requirements of a total fire ban or fire break, contact the City’s Rangers on 9477 7224 to request their attendance. If a Ranger is not available, Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA or a fire brigade can be contacted on 000 to deal with the immediate issue and refer the incident to Rangers for enforcement action.

Further information can be found on the City’s emergencies webpages, Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA website and the Department of Health’s HealthyWA website.
