Our first year of FOGO

Just over a year since we introduced the Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) three-bin system, we’re reflecting on the progress we’ve made together towards a more sustainable future.

In the first 12 months, we diverted more than 4,000 tonnes of organic waste from landfill. Instead of going to waste, food scraps and garden clippings are now being transformed into nutrient-rich compost to support healthier soils and a more sustainable environment.

Since the rollout began, more than 17,900 households have made the switch to the FOGO system.

Throughout the year, we’ve worked closely with the community to support the change. Our team has been out and about at local events, hosting pop-ups, answering questions, and helping residents learn how to get the most out of their FOGO bins.

The next phase is already in motion, with planning underway to expand FOGO to high-density properties such as apartments and townhouses.

We’re continuing to work closely with residents, strata managers and property owners to make sure the system is tailored to different housing types and easy for everyone to use.

FOGO is just one of the ways we’re supporting practical, everyday sustainability and creating opportunities for our residents to help build a cleaner, greener City of Belmont.
