Belmont Sister City student exchange program
Sister City Program
Starting in 1984, we have built a long-standing relationship with our sister city, Adachi-ku in Tokyo, Japan. The purpose of the sister city relationship is to promote cultural and educational exchanges between our cities.
A mainstay of our relationship has been the City-run Student Exchange Program. Each year, students from the City of Belmont travel to Adachi-ku in early January to experience Japanese culture and customs, while students from Adachi-ku visit the City of Belmont in August, where they explore the city and wider Perth region.
While on exchange, students from both cities participate in cultural tours, school visits and sightseeing. Students are homehosted by local families, which contributes to the students' experience, and gives them the opportunity to improve their English or Japanese language skills.
Sister City Student Exchange Program to Adachi-ku
Each year, we accompany several students to visit Adachi-ku for an approximately nine-day cultural and educational tour. The unique opportunities offered through the program are rewarding for students, who will get to enjoy several experiences in Japan with a Japanese host family.
The Sister City Student Exchange Program is an aspirational program for our high-achieving young people. Upon returning from the trip, participants will be asked to write to the City, detailing their experiences.
