Programs and services for young people
Drop-In
Drop-In is one of a range of programs are available for young people in Years 7 to 12 who live in, or go to school in the City of Belmont.
A safe and supportive environment
Drop-In is a safe, supportive, vibrant, creative, drug and alcohol-free environment.
Young people can access information and join a range of activities including sports, internet, computers, consoles, pool, table tennis, movies, chill-out areas, board games, art materials, cooking and healthy snacks.
Drop-In activities are designed to help young people build strong and positive relationships, share information and ideas, learn new skills, and explore their sense of identity in a space designed to reflect their interests and culture. This includes
Homeschool Group, 12-18 year-olds that are homeschoolded, and the
Rainbow Collective, a fun, inclusive safe space for any young persons aged 12 to 18 years who identifies within the LGBTQIA+ community.
Young people can speak with qualified case workers and youth workers if they need support for a range of challenges.
The chance to learn valuable life skills
As part of the Drop-In service, 16 to 25-year-olds can join in on the specialised life skills program,
Head Start, on Thursday afternoons. These sessions cover budgeting, resume writing, interview skills, help finding work, independent living skills, healthy relationships, legal aid, accessing Centrelink, getting a tax file number, opening a bank account, cooking, basic car maintenance and career advice.
Y leadership
The City believes that young people should feel heard and valued, and feel that they can contribute to their community and influence their environment and circumstances as they transition into adulthood.
‘Project Y’ is the City’s Youth Committee, a group which gives young people the chance to connect with their local community and have a voice in the decision-making processes around issues which affect them. If you are aged between 12-25 years old and wish to join or learn more, please see the
Project Y Flyer for details.
Case management
Case management support provides young people with information, referrals, advocacy, goal-setting and informal counselling. Young people who need support can get help tailored for their individual needs through this service, available Monday to Friday from 10am to 6pm.
For extra support, a Centrelink outreach staff member visits The Base fortnightly on a Thursday during school term, from 3pm to 4pm.
Excursions and outreach
On Saturdays, The Base@Belmont invites young people to explore their community and other areas in Perth through a range of free excursions. Places are limited – so bookings and membership forms are essential.
The Base@Belmont also provides support, information and activities where young people spend time through community outreach. Popular locations for outreach include public parks, community centres, shopping centres and local events across the City.
School holiday program
The Base@Belmont has extended opening hours during school holidays including free activities, sports, entertainment and outings available.
