Councillors help to lead and guide the community through being a point of communication, representing the interests of electors, ratepayers and residents, and contributing to decision-making processes at meetings.
If you would like to make a difference in your community and have a say in local decision-making, you might consider becoming a candidate for Council.
Nominating for Council
You can nominate to stand as a candidate in the City of Belmont if you are eligible to vote, which means you are at least 18 years of age, not disqualified and enrolled to vote. Please note, nominees of a body corporate cannot stand for election.
How to nominate
To nominate as a candidate in the local government elections, you need to submit a nomination form during the relevant nomination period.
The Western Australian Electoral Commission has developed an online system called Nomination Builder to help you complete your nomination form and candidate profile. This system offers the most streamlined way to complete and submit your nomination form and profile for the elections.
Campaigning for an election
If your nomination is accepted, you will be named as a candidate in your local election. You will then campaign in your chosen ward to share who you are and how you believe you can serve the community if you are elected.
