Environmental assessment project
Everybody benefits from green business. The City of Belmont’s Business Environmental Assessment Project aims to protect the environment by reducing the risk of discharges of contaminants from commercial and industrial premises.
Onsite assessments
The City proactively visits and inspects selected business premises to assess any activities which could cause discharges to the local natural environment if something goes wrong.
You can also request an inspection of your business premises. You will receive helpful feedback such as recommendations on how to reduce the risk of polluting discharges and comply with relevant legislation.
Your business could benefit from an assessment if you carry out at least one of the following activities:
- Store or work with chemicals;
- Conduct spray painting;
- Wash vehicles or generate trade wastewater;
- Generate controlled waste, as defined in the Environmental Protection (Controlled Waste) Regulations 2004.
Environmental Protection (Unauthorised Discharges) Regulations 2004
The aim of an inspection is to help you become more aware of your impact and take action to prevent any pollution problems in the future. If a breach of the
Environmental Protection (Unauthorised Discharges) Regulations 2004 or other relevant legislation is found, the City may need to take action to protect the environment.
Under the
Environmental Protection (Unauthorised Discharges) Regulations 2004 it is an offence to cause or allow certain materials to enter the environment in connection with your business or commercial activity. For more information, please read the
Department of Water and Environmental Regulations fact sheet.
