Animal registration
In WA, all dogs over the age of three months and all cats over the age of six months must be registered with the local government where you reside.
You can register your pet with the City of Belmont for one or three years, expiring on 31 October of the respective year or you also have the option of a lifetime registration.

Registering your dog
To register your dog, you will need to provide:
- Proof of micro-chipping, which your dog must have before you can register it;
- Proof of sterilisation, which can be provided via a Veterinary Surgeon's Certificate, a Statutory Declaration signed by the owner or having a City of Belmont Ranger sight the dog's sterilisation tattoo.
The City encourages you to have your dog sterilised to prevent them contributing to the increasing population of unwanted dogs and puppies in Perth's pounds and shelters.
If you register your dog before it has been sterilised, and then get it sterilised during that registration period, you are entitled to a refund of the difference in registration fees. You can provide the City with a copy of the Veterinary Certificate and a covering letter or email asking for a refund because your dog is now sterilised.
