Events for young people
Project Y: the City’s youth committee
The team plans, designs, promotes and runs a number of events throughout the year. This process helps Project Y members develop valuable interpersonal, leadership, team work and event planning skills – and results in a range of fun events for young people in the City of Belmont.
WA Mental Health Week
WA Mental Health Week is observed each year from 10 to 17 October. Project Y organises an event each year to give young people the chance to access mental health support advice and services as part of a fun, family-oriented festival.
Youth Week WA
Youth Week WA is a celebration of young people held in April each year. It gives young people the opportunity to have fun, showcase their talents and skills, and celebrate their positive contribution to their community. During Youth Week WA, the City celebrates the contribution of young people within the City of Belmont.
To celebrate Youth Week in 2021, the City collaborated with The Valuing Children Initiative and Scott Griffiths AKA Optamus from Downsyde, to offer a hip-hop songwriting workshop
with City’s young people. The group's song, Head in the Clouds, has been professionally produced and can be listened to on Spotify
