Bulk bins, drop-off days & on demand
Bulk bins
Most households within the City of Belmont are eligible for at least one 3m3 bulk bin each financial year, depending on the size of the property and available verge space.
There are two types of bulk bin: hard waste (blue or white) and green waste (green). Properties can only order one bulk bin per delivery date.
Hard waste bulk bins (blue or white)
Hard waste bulk bins are for the disposal of general household material.
Weekday bulk bins will generally be delivered on Monday or Tuesday and will remain onsite for three evenings and two days.
Weekend bulk bins will generally be delivered on a Thursday or Friday and will remain onsite over the weekend.

Green bulk bins (green waste)
If you only have green waste such as branches (maximum thickness 250mm), clippings and weeds, please order a green bulk bin.
Green bulk bins will be delivered on a Wednesday and removed the following Wednesday. Rather than going to landfill your waste will be processed into mulch, saving on disposal costs and helping the environment.
As this material is made into mulch, do not place green waste in plastic bags or contaminate with non-green material.
How to order a bulk bin
Depending on demand, the approximate waiting time is
two to four weeks.
You can place an order online:
You can also order a bulk bin by phoning Veolia on 9350 7182. Veolia will take your order over the phone and give you an approximate waiting time. Bulk bin allocations are recorded against the financial year they are delivered, not the year they are ordered.
Please remember:
- Leave the bin where it has been placed by the Veolia driver;
- Keep the area clear so the Veolia driver can easily remove the bin;
- Bins delivered full will be emptied the same day;
- If a bin needs to be emptied by the City due to misuse, you will be responsible for any costs incurred.
Tip passes
If you are eligible for four bulk bins, you can choose to swap
one of your bulk bin entitlements per year for a tip pass for a 6 x 4 trailer to the Canning Waste Transfer Station. Please note, tip passes cannot be used for asbestos, mattresses or tyres.
On demand services
Sometimes, the bulky size and shape of certain types of waste makes it is either difficult or inappropriate for them to be placed in the blue bulk bins. For example, fridges and freezers should not be put in bulk bins because of the potential hazardous materials they are made from.
Some bulky items can be collected by using the City’s On-Demand Collection Services. Collections are conducted every two weeks.
Learn more about:
You can request a collection of
one of each of the following item types every financial year. You can make requests in different months of the financial year (e.g. a bed base in August and stove in December):
- Fridge or freezer (must be emptied and cleaned of all food items)
- Mattress
- Bed base
- Lounge suite
- Other whitegoods item such as a stove or washing machine
Please note, you cannot swap item allocations (e.g. three mattresses and two fridges) or carry over unused allocations into the following financial year. Allocations are recorded against the financial year they are delivered, not the year they are ordered.
Leave your items for collection in a visible location near the front of the property line but not on the verge a few days before the scheduled collection date.
To book a collection, email belmont.anz@veolia.com or phone Veolia on 9350 7182 between 7:30am and 5:00pm on weekdays.
Drop-off days
If you need to dispose of asbestos, whitegoods, motor oil, car batteries, mattresses, ensemble bed bases, plate glass or e-waste the City holds six drop-off days each year. Asbestos and Whitegoods Drop-off Days are held in March and September. E-Waste Drop-off Days are held in July and December.
The disposal days are operated from Council's Operations Centre, 180 Planet Street Carlisle, between 9:00am and 1:00pm.
You can find dates and details of the next drop-off day by reading the Fact Sheet Asbestos Disposal Day or Fact Sheet - Whitegoods Drop-off Day or Fact Sheet - E-Waste Drop-off Day.
