The City of Belmont is committed to ensuring people living with disability have equal access to services and facilities, including information and content available online.

The City has worked to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0) Guidelines at AA standard to provide a website that is useable and accessible for all members of our community.

What makes this website accessible?

The following features and guides will help you to have the best experience possible while engaging with us online.

Text sizing

The recommended font size for an accessible website is 16px and the City has chosen to make our body text 18px to provide the best support for people living with impaired vision. Text can be further resized by:

  • Pressing ctrl on your keyboard and scrolling with your mouse wheel
  • Using your browser menu to increase the page zoom

Colour contrast

The majority of this website has black text on a white background. Where text is used over colour such as in quicklink buttons, the colour contrast is at a ratio of at least 4.5:1.

Tab navigation and skip to content

By using the 'tab' key the user can navigate through the website using only a keyboard. As each hyperlink is reached the colour or design will change to indicate your position on the page. The header also features a 'skip to content, navigation or search' function to assist people using screen readers to find content quickly and efficiently.

Alternate text

Images that are of importance and are present in content pages have what is known as 'alternate text',  which describse the appearance and function of the image for screen readers and other assistive technologies.

Content for everyone

Written content on this website, where possible, has been written in Easy English to make engaging with the information you need a simpler task.

YouTube videos produced by the City include Closed Captioning but we cannot account for videos created by other groups that may be used on this website. Find out how to use YouTube with a screen reader.

Navigation using a screen reader

To navigate through different sections of content using a screen reader:

  • Navigate via the different Heading levels (Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3)
  • Press Tab to navigate to all links on a page

Hyperlinks

Hyperlinks are used throughout this website and have been made descriptive of the content that will be found at the link's destination. For an improved experience, internal links will open in the same tab, however documents and external links will open in a new tab.

Third party applications

While the City has made every effort to meet WCAG 2.0 AA guidelines, there are a number of other websites and APIs used on this site that are not to the same accessibility level. These include:

  • Intramaps (online mapping system)
  • ePathway/City Watch (online payments)
  • Google Maps
  • YouTube
  • Campaign Monitor
