Parking
When you are moving around the City of Belmont, it is important to park legally, safely and in a way that will not endanger or inconvenience other people in any way. The City's
Consolidated Local Law 2020 regulates the parking of vehicles.

Here are some guidelines for parking safely across different areas of the City.
Follow school parking signage
School parking restrictions are enforced in certain street locations to keep children safe. Please note:
- Some of these parking restrictions only apply during certain times, for example while children are being dropped off or picked up;
- Some areas are used for more than one purpose so different restrictions apply at different times, such as parking areas for vehicles which later become bus zones to provide safe access for children travelling on school buses;
- School parking restrictions are strictly enforced, so please read the parking signs carefully to avoid receiving an infringement.
It is not practical for schools to provide enough parking for everyone, so please remember to park legally, help to prevent parking issues and keep the school’s students safe.

Do not park on footpaths
Please do not park across or on footpaths, dual use paths and bicycle paths at any time.
Footpaths are designed to give pedestrians a safe walking environment, away from passing vehicles. Parking on footpaths can cause a range of difficulties and dangers, especially for vulnerable pedestrians such as young children, people with babies in prams, people using wheelchairs or mobility devices and elderly people.
Only park on verges with permission
If you would like to drive, park, or stand a vehicle on the verge, you need to have permission from the owner or occupier of that land or property.
If someone has parked on your home or business verge without permission, you can report the vehicle to City Rangers who may take further action.
Do not park near an intersection
Parking at an intersection can cause serious vehicle and pedestrian accidents.
It is important that both pedestrians and motorists can easily see and be seen by any oncoming traffic before they enter a street. Whether you are walking or driving, please remember to look both ways before entering or crossing an intersection.
Parking within 10 metres of an intersection is an offence.
Do not park on median strips
Median strips and traffic islands are used to divide traffic and create safer conditions on busy arterial roads. Parking on or in these areas is not permitted. It poses a safety risk to other road users and pedestrians.
Do not park facing oncoming traffic
For safety reasons, when you park on the road, your vehicle must be facing in the same direction as the traffic flow. Please note, under the City’s
Consolidated Local Law 2020 and the
Road Traffic Code 2000, it is an offence to park a vehicle against oncoming traffic.
Do not park for longer than 24 hours in a public place
Parking for longer than 24 hours in any portion of a public place, such as on the carriageway or verge, is an offence under the City’s
Consolidated Local Law 2020.
If you leave your vehicle in a public place for more than 24 hours without moving it from its original location, you may receive an infringement.
