Dog exercise areas
Dog exercise areas
You will find several approved off-leash dog exercise areas around the City of Belmont.
As these are shared spaces, we all need to be courteous when it comes to the safe use of our reserves.
The approved dog exercise areas are not for the exclusive use of dogs. Many parks and reserves are shared with sporting clubs, so it is important to be respectful of other park users while exercising your dog off-leash.
So we can keep our shared spaces safe and enjoyable for both humans and dogs, please make sure:
- Dogs are kept at least 5 metres from children’s playgrounds.
- Dogs are kept at least 5 metres from playing fields being used for organised sport or events.
- Dogs are on-leash in any carpark.
- Your dog must be able to be controlled by you at all times either by leash or verbal commands, and must be prevented from rushing up to other people and dogs.

Dog poo disposal
Please make sure you pick up and dispose of any droppings from your dog. We provide dog waste bags and bins at dog exercise areas listed above.
We are in the process of replacing the plastic dog waste bags in the parks with compostable bags, which can be placed in the new residential FOGO bins at your home or our public litter bins. Whilst this changeover is still ongoing, please check the bags for the compostable logo before placing them into the new green lid FOGO bins.
If the dog waste dispensers are empty, please phone the City on 9477 7222 to ask that the dispensers be refilled.
No dogs allowed in these areas
Please note, the City has dog prohibited areas within the City. These areas are:
- Cloverdale Sports & Recreation Centre, Cloverdale
- Gerry Archer Athletic Park, Cloverdale
- Netball Courts at Wilson Park, Rivervale
