Carport
A carport for residential purposes is defined as a roofed structure that is open-sided, except where it abuts a dwelling or property boundary, and is used to accommodate one or more motor vehicles.
Before you construct a new carport or alter an existing carport, you will need a building permit – and may need development approval – from the City of Belmont.

- Open-sided except where it joins the home and a property boundary on one side;
- Has a door securing the carport which is designed and constructed to allow for clear views through to the home;
- The pitch and colour of the roof matches that of the existing residence;
- Carport is located a minimum setback of 2 metres from the front boundary.
- Is included in a Heritage List refer Schedule 2, Part 3, cl.8 of the Planning and Development (Local Planning Schemes) Regulations 2015;
- Is on a lot with an area less than 260sqm;
