Get your gardening gloves ready! Verge Garden Program and Trees for Residents launched

Residents are getting their gardening gloves ready for an exciting new Verge Garden Program and the return of Trees for Residents this planting season.

Running for the first time this year, the new Verge Garden Program is designed to help residents transform our urban street verges into sustainable native gardens.

As part of the program, residents can apply for a free Verge Garden Makeover Starter Kit which includes 20 advanced WA native plants, mulch, soil conditioner and a Verge Garden Makeover Guide.

Each item in the kit has been carefully selected to suit the local area and guided by the City’s streetscape planting palette and Streetscape Enhancement Strategy principles.

Starter kit recipients will also be invited to a free workshop to receive tips and expert guidance for a happy verge garden all year round.

The program will also include a Verge Garden Competition to be held later in the year to reward residents for their hard work. The competition will be open to all residents and include prizes for newly established verge gardens and existing verge gardens.

The new program is launching alongside the much-loved Trees for Residents program, which provides residents a free tree to plant on their property. Last year’s program saw over 320 trees collected by residents and planted in yards around the City.

Residents keen to green their verge can apply for a Verge Garden Makeover Starter Kit on our website. Applications will be open until Friday 17 May 2024, or while stocks last.

Submissions to take part in this year’s Trees for Residents program are open until Friday 17 May, or while stocks last. You can request a free tree by completing the submission form on our website.

For more information on the programs, or support submitting your application, please contact our Parks, Leisure and Environment team on environment@belmont.wa.gov.au or call the City on (08) 9477 7222.
