Update regarding Councillor Vijay

On Thursday 4 April the City became aware of allegations and court proceedings against Councillor Vijay regarding incidents that are alleged to have occurred while he was working as a driving assessor for the Department of Transport earlier this year.
 
The City of Belmont will not provide comment on this matter as it is subject to legal proceedings.
 
Councillor Vijay has requested a leave of absence from Council duties until the end of July. He has tendered his apology for the Agenda Briefing Forum on 16 April and the Ordinary Council Meeting on 23 April and submitted his request for a leave of absence to be tabled at the Ordinary Council Meeting on 23 April.
 
In accordance with the Local Government Act 1995, we have advised the Department of Local Government of the charges against Councillor Vijay. The City is liaising with the Department of Local Government on this matter.
