How to join
Once you are a library member, you may borrow up to 15 items at one time. Anyone can join and membership is free for anybody who lives in Western Australia.
To become a member, please bring your identification as detailed below. You can also register online now and start reserving your items today.
Membership for adults
To sign up for a membership, we will accept any of these types of photo identification:
- Current Driver’s Licence, or
- Current Passport (any nationality), or
- WA Photo Card
All other documents are subject to approval.
You will also need to provide a way for us to get in contact with you, such as your home or mobile phone number, or your email address.
Don't have photo ID? Don’t worry
If you don’t have photo ID, we can arrange an interim membership. This means you will have full and free access to our computers and Wi-Fi. You may also be able to borrow up to five items.
For an interim membership, we will need you to provide two of these documents:
- Birth certificate
- Medicare card
- Centrelink-issued card
- Tertiary student card
- Rental agreement/mortgage contract
- Rates notice
- Bank statement (dated <6 months)
- Utility bill e.g. telephone bill/gas bill/electricity bill (dated <2 months)
Any other documents are subject to approval.
You can apply to upgrade to a full membership at any time once you can provide us with photo ID.
Membership for children
Each child in your family can have their own library membership. To sign them up, please present your current identification and proof of parentage or guardianship, e.g. Medicare card, Health Care card, birth certificate.
Interim membership for visitors
If you are visiting the City of Belmont from interstate or overseas, you might like to sign up for interim membership. This means you will have full and free access to our public computers and Wi-Fi. You can also borrow up to five items from our library.
To sign up for an interim membership, you will need to present photo identification:
- Interstate travellers – Please present current photo identification which shows your residential address in Australia, e.g. driver's licence or Government issued photo card;
- International travellers – Please present international photo identification, such as your current passport.
Your membership card
Please bring your membership card whenever you borrow items from the library or use our public computers or Wi-Fi.
By joining the library, you accept responsibility for all items borrowed on your membership card. If your card is lost or stolen, you need to let our library staff know so we can prevent any further transactions. You can get a replacement card for $3.00 and will just need to present some photo identification.
